Tips For a Healthy Mind

Everybody needs a healthy mind. Fitness is one of the most important aspects of our lives that we should be mindful of. From our young age to old age, it is widely known that the body and all its muscles need to be fit. However, studies show that people who have exercised their body thoroughly over the years may not always go on to have happier and better lives. This is due to the fact that just as your body needs exercise, so does your mind. One cannot thrive for long without the other.

By exercising our brain effectively we are able to be more focused and to use it effectively as well. Proper training of the mind not only aids in a greater capacity for intelligence but it also improves the capability we have to critically think and evaluate. But the underlying question is to ask how indeed the best way to exercise your brain is? You will find some useful steps that need to be taken in order to achieve this.

Watch less TV – this is one of the tougher steps that can be adopted for a healthy mind and functioning brain. Due to the fact that many people love watching television shows and movies constantly. However, this occurs because people do not know the real effect television has on your mind. Accord to the results of several studies that have been done across the world, the effect of television is that it does not allow the brain to take a break. Hence by keeping us focused on one thing, it takes away the ability to think. After watching television for a long time our body and eyes feel tired due to this. One of the more productive means of entertainment is to listen to decent music. The best option is to read books and magazines as it is not just entertainment but also broadens your mind.

Do a bit of stretching – doing frequent exercises not only makes the body fit but by making the body fit, your mind feels more relaxed and active as well. The dynamic body movements stimulate your brain to send positive waves of energy which makes you feel active and energetic. This is why we feel more focused and eager after exercising and working out.

Take on hard to read books – everyone loves a good read. Especially if it is gripping, interesting and easy to read. However, these types of books may not be the best when it comes to broadening your mind. While I am a big fan of thrillers, there is little I can learn from them. Hence you should look at books by prominent authors and philosophers which are regarded as classics. These books may indeed be hard to read due to sheer volume and depth. However, if you invest the time and effort, the rewards received can be monumental. Another perk that comes with reading heavy classical books is that it increases your vocabulary and knowledge of the language as well. This makes you think and takes in the words you read, hence broadening your thinking capabilities and ultimately widening your intelligence.

Get sufficient sleep this cannot be stressed enough and is one of the most important factors that you need to take into consideration for a healthy mind. Yet it is also the one that most people ignore. People exercise and work during the day and make the mistake of sleeping for around 4 or 5 hours every day. This is detrimental in the long term. Doctors suggest 8 hours of sleep. This may seem like too much if you lead a busy life, however, the key is to go to bed early and wake up early. This way you can cover a good 8 hours. Make sure you don’t oversleep as this too could be bad for your body and mind as well. If you get tired and feel like you need to sleep during the day, taking a quick 30-minutes nap will make you feel more focused and awake. Oversleeping during the day will make you feel worn out and even miserable at times. Always keep in your mind that sleeping well keeps your brain focused and fit.

Do not tax your mind by worrying unnecessarily – people always think about things that are troubling them. This is needed to a certain extent. However, it is important that you don’t overthink about issues which would make you feel worn out and depressed. Try not to feel emotional before you understand a situation. Reflecting on issues helps you to make better decisions. Whenever there is an opportunity to think and be alone, take comfort and revel in it, as the person you need to be comfortable with most is yourself. This helps you develop better ideas and make better decisions.

Hence as mentioned above following these steps among others will help you increase intelligence and help in having a healthy mind.
